My current academic roles are as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Maryland University College (UMUC), a Senior Lecturer at The University of Akron's College of Business, a Statistics Consultant for Kent State University's College of Nursing, and a Fellow of the Institute for Life-span Development and Gerontology at the University of Akron. I have also served as an adjunct faculty member at The Boler School of Business of John Carroll University. I teach in Graduate Management and International Business and Undergraduate Marketing, Psychology and Gerontology programs.
I am the Vice President of Research for Creative Action LLC, a small consulting firm in Akron, OH specializing in market research on creating and commercializing new products and services. Our cognitive therapeutic program for people with dementia, head trauma, and stroke, The Memory Magic Program developed with funding from the National Institute on Aging, is now being distributed internationally. I serve as the acting CEO of a start-up company, iRxReminder LLC, commercializing new iPhone-based medication reminding and medical data gathering technology for clinical trials and other research.
My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor's in Engineering in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan and I received my Master's in Psychology and my Doctorate in Industrial Organizational Psychology from the University of Akron. Between my undergraduate and graduate programs I worked for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA and completed some Post-Bacheloreate work at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Creative Action has been recognized as a Top 20 Biotech company by the Cleveland Plain Dealer and been recognized with a national Tibbet's Award from the Small Business Administration for our contributions to the Small Business Innovation Research Program. Creative Action received a prestigious 3rd Frontier Award from the State of Ohio to support commercialization of our Memory Magic Program. During my tenure at Creative Action I have written and executed over $10 Million in grant funding from numerous agencies including the National Institutes of Health, National Institute on Aging, National Institute on Drug Abuse, the Department of Education, The Department of Defense, Office of Naval Research, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. My roles on those projects have included serving as Principal Investigator, Director of Research, Director of Data Management, and Project Manager. I am named in 13 patents and have several patents currently pending.
My research interests include the influences of aging on decision-making, cognition, and learning. Recent projects include examining processing differences in younger and older managers, training older adults to use personal digital assistants, utilizing personal digital assistants for medication reminding, development and testing of web-based training on older offender management for corrections professionals, and developing advanced equipment and software for conducting environmental momentary assessment research.
