Vijay Mehrotra is an Associate Professor of Quantitative Analytics at the University of San Francisco, a management consultant with a specialization in analytic models and process improvement, and a successful angel investor and advisor to early stage startups.
Vijay’s teaching, research, and consulting all focus on how mathematical models transform management in today’s data-rich, information-poor business world, with a specialization in customer service and technical support operations, performance management, and process improvement.
Prior to become a professor, Vijay enjoyed a very successful career as an operations management consultant, entrepreneur, and executive. From 1994 to 2002, he was co-founder and CEO of Onward Inc., an operations management consulting firm based in Mountain View, CA, where he led the growth of the firm from three consultants to a professional staff of thirty. After his consulting practice was acquired by Blue Pumpkin Software, he was Vice President for Analytics Solutions at Blue Pumpkin from 2002 to 2004.
Dr. Mehrotra has invested in and/or served as advisor to many technology companies including Tyecin Systems (acquird by Manugistics), LiftMedia (acquired by WebLoyalty), Enkata Technology, the Rubicon Project, and Resonate Networks.
Professor Mehrotra holds a Ph.D. in Operations Research from Stanford University and a B.A. in Mathematics, Economics and English from St. Olaf College. His column “Analyze This!” appears in each issue of Analytics magazine.
