Hi Walt!

Yes, I have been working with several guys for a couple of years to put out a book as a "jump-start" for business analysts who want to be data miners. It describes the technology at the intuitive level, not the formal mathematical level. I will be published by Academic Press in April.

I am working as a data miner for a bank near home. I prever the low-key environment and the steady paycheck in my simi-retirement (at least the SSA thinks I am retired, and send a check each month). But, I am having too much fun to retire. I am building a customer-centric data mart in which to do analytics. First, I have to build the householding system with DataFlux, a SAS ETL tool with fuzzy matching capabilities. Now, I am working with Statistica Data Miner and SAS Enterprise Miner to do modeling.

How are you doing? Still consulting? I am doing some informal consulting with a company called Zementis in San Diego. They provide a general purpose scoring engine using PMML files, which operates on the Amazon.com cloud. I may move in that direction for solution development, but I will have to leave the bank to do it. We will see...

Keep in touch,
Merry Christmas,

Bob
