I see this a lot and this seems to be the best way to go that many of my sql jockey partners use. Even if the SQL is perfect on high end database platforms, the results may never come back when not doing this on large systems that are duct taped together.

This is especially troublesome in legacy systems that were never ported over after mergers and acquisitions where there is an explosion of transaction data. Some firms don't even partition. This was good post. I am interested to hear what others can contribute to this thread.
